Madrid - 1st to 5th of July 2010

We arrived into Madrid early evening and very sleepy from our Ibiza funtimes, but with Warren´s sister Angie due to arrive and help us explore Madrid in two days time we had a day to spare so decided to day trip it to Toledo. Only 30 minutes south of Madrid by speedy train, perched on top of a rocky ridge above a muddy little river, twas well worth a visit.
We made it back to Madrid to meet Angie at the Metro stop and had time for a quick wander through the magnificent Plaza Major and a quick bite to eat.Angie´s first morning in Spain, and it was our first experience of rain on tour. Out came the brollies until we made it into the Palacio Real to escape the rain. It cleared up in the afternoon for a stroll through the streets and over to one of Madrid´s famous art galleries.
The biggest and best flea market in Europe takes place every Sunday morning in Madrid...
Madridians apparently enjoy Sunday afternoons in the park, and so we decided to join them, in a large and beautiful park with a fine lake. A nice lazy afternoon in the sun with our books.
Keen to experience a real Spanish pastime, we went along to the very cool bullring for a bit of bullfighting. What started off as a bit of fun and excitement, quickly got a little bit gross when we realised they actually still kill the bulls. Turned out to be not so fun, so we left a bit early to get home and pack for our train the following day.
